Any California court which is part of the Odyssey eFileCA court system uses Tyler Technologies’ payment processor called Tyler Online Gateway (TOGA).

Starting on August 26, 2024, the San Diego Superior Court’s Civil Division requires filers to complete the CIV-180 Request for Payment of Trust Funds / Refund form and mail the completed form to the Central Civil Business Office, addressed to the attention of Treva Cutts. Alternatively, the Court permits filers to drop off the form directly at the Central Civil Business Office.

TOGA authorizes and charges all the fees assessed in the eFileCA courts including:

  • Court document fees
  • Court convenience fees
  • The Odyssey eFile EFM service fee
  • Your e-filing service provider (EFSP) fee

As your e-filing service provider (EFSP), our service does not authorize or charge your Payment Account for those assessed fees in the eFileCA courts.

As such, our service is unable to refund any fees TOGA collects.

Create a Request for Refund Document

Most eFileCA courts require filers to create a “Request for Refund” document if they feel they were overcharged in their submission. The filer will need to use the Envelope Number associated with the overcharge as a reference. Once the Request for Refund document is created, it should be e-filed into the case using the appropriate document type the court offers for that request.

After the court accepts the Request for Refund, they will direct their payment processor (TOGA) to refund the overcharged amount to the same payment method that was used for the original submission.

Reach out to the Court

If you have questions about an overcharge or a pending Request for Refund in the eFileCA courts, you may reach out to the filing clerk at the court directly with the envelope number for reference.

Bank Statements for eFileCA Filings

For filings into eFileCA Courts, users can expect two (2) pre-authorizations of the estimated fees per submission (and two (2) final charges for any accepted eFileCA submission). This is because the eFileCA’s payment processor splits pre-authorizations/final charges into two (2) separate amounts per envelope — one for court-related fees and the other for service fees. If there aren’t any court-related fees, you will only have one charge for the service fees.

In the image above, the green rows comprise the Court Fees and the blue rows comprise the Service Fees

Your online statement will reflect the totals of those rows in 2 separate pre-authorizations (and 2 final charges upon acceptance of the submission).
